Winter of Valley Forge

Winter at Valley Forge, 1777-1778
Washington and his men arrived at Valley Forge on December 19, 1777. They came to Valley Forge to prepare for war against the British after the Battle of Saratoga. Unfortunately they weren't prepared for the cold and harsh winter weather. They did not have enough food or proper clothing and shelter. By their last day on June 19, 1778, 2500 people had died.
George Washington led his soldiers to Valley Forge after their victory at Saratoga. Men at Valley Forge spent most of their time preparing and improving their fighting skills for the war against Britain.
Washington and his men arriveed at Valley Forge on December 19, 1777. After a long, harsh, and difficult winter the soldiers were ready for the British. They left Valley Forge on June 19, 1778.
Washington's army had to suffer through a long winter at Valley Forge. Soldiers suffered badly there. In order to survive and stay somewhat healthy, the soldiers built huts. They had to sleep on the frozen ground. Even some soldiers had no shoes so they had to wrap cloth around their feet in order not to get frostbite too badly. But when the patriots heard the news, that they soldiers were suffering, they sent help.
After a defeat at Saratoga, Washingtons army was sent to a makeshift camp in Valley Forge. Valley Forge was cold, with barley any supplies. Its is in Philidelphia. the army moved south from New jersey to defend the capital of Philidelphia. Valley Forge is on the Schuylkill River.
Gearge Washington and his contenatial army had to go throufg a hard cold winter at Valley Forge.Even though they had good hope from the victory at Saratoga, and the promise of help from Europe. All of the soilders had to sleep in old dilapidated huts. Many died from starvation and small pox which spread like wild fire.When the new of the winter at Valley Forge got out help was on the way as soon as possible. Thet brought food and blankets and clothes to help them get through the rest of the winter.
George Washington lead his army to a horrible disaster. The reason why this was shuch a disaster was because of all the lifes that where teken from starvation, small pox and being froze to death. All they had to eat in the middle of winter was water mixed with flower which was bareily enough to keep most of the men going. To help stop the spread of small pox the doctor and the only one there spread the diease on open cuts to help the soilders build an inmmmune system.
